Sophie A. (Lenga) Raychel, 89, formerly of Binghamton, NY. Sophie passed quietly in her sleep
on September 23, 2021, at Good Shepherd Village at Endwell, NY. Sophie was predeceased by
her husband, Leonard S. Raychel, Sr., her parents Teofiland Kathryn Lenga, all of her siblings:
Genevieve Severance, Ruby Fabrizio, Theresa Yevchak, Helen Leonard, Casimir, Henry, William, Edward, and Fred Lenga. Along with many beloved In-Laws, other family members and her canine companion, Amy. Sophie is survived by her children:
Leonard S. Raychel, Jr.(Debby), Renee(Ken) Dupnock, Rick(Jeanne) Raychel,
Karen(John) Lapinski, Grandchildren: Lindsay Raychel, Chad Raychel, Dr. Trisha Dupnock,
Laurie Dupnock, Adam Raychel, Jocelyn(Ryan) Mullins, Melissa(Adam) Kettle, Dr. Ashley Lapinski, Christopher Lapinski, Madison Lapinski, Great-Grandchildren: Ida-Rae and
Tucker Mullins. Sophie is also survived by many nieces and nephews as well as one Very
Special Sister-in-Law who meant the world to her, Irene Lenga.
Sophie graduated from Binghamton Central's first Beautician School in 1951. While crashing a
wedding reception at the Polish Club in Binghamton, NY, with some friends, she met her future
husband Len. They were married in May of 1953 and celebrated 60 years together. Sophie was
a retired GE Westover employee with over twenty five years of service. Sophie and Len, also
owned One Hour Martinizing Dry Cleaning Store in Endwell. Sophie loved having her grandchildren come to her house for sleepovers, and going camping with the entire family. Once when asked what the best part of her life was, she responded, “My children and grandchildren.”
Due to COVID-19, a Family Celebration of Sophie’s life will take place on Monday, September 27, 2021 at Calvary Cemetery Upper Mausoleum (new section). Time of event yet to be determined.
