Paula Marie Shimer

Paula Shimer, a beloved resident of Johnson City, New York, passed away on October 9, 2023, at the age of 55 after a long brave battle with Alzheimers disease. Paula was born and raised in Johnson City, and it was here and Endicott, NY that she touched the lives of many with her warmth, kindness, and indomitable spirit. Paula was preceded in death by her parents, Franklin and Pauline Shimer, as well as her sister Cecelia Shimer and brother Thomas Shimer. She is survived by her sister, Mary Shimer,  and broth-er,  Steven Shimer, along with her nephews, Sean Shimer and Kevan Shimer. Paula's journey was a remarkable one, marked by her involvement in the Broome Tioga BOCES educational program from which she graduated and proudly received a diploma. This is where she thrived and made many lasting friendships. She participated in the Special Olympics, and especially loved bowling. Paula showed exceptional dedication and determination in all her endeavors. Paula enjoyed simple pleasures in life, such as going to camp at Sky Lake and savoring a cup of coffee. She cherished the company of her brothers and sister and enjoyed going on rides in the country which brought her joy, and indulging in her favorite dish, manicotti seasoned generously with pepper.She enjoyed the Merry -Go- Round. She really loved singing as well. Paula's work with Country Valley Industries was a source of great pride and fulfillment. She worked really hard at many different jobs. She received an award from Bates Troy for her remarkable work. Paula participated in the Talking Hands shows while there as well. Paula loved all of her housemates and staff. A Funeral Service to celebrate Paula's life will be held at J.F. Rice Funeral Home, Inc. on Tuesday, October 17th at 11 am. Prior to the service, a public visitation will take place Monday October 16th from 5 pm to 7 pm at the funeral home. Entombement will take place at Calvary Cemetery following the Funeral Service.
