Obituary

 

Lyman John koniuto passed away peacefully on Friday, November 5, 2021 while in the arms of his family and hearing comforting words in his ear from his loving family members from afar via cell phone.  Although a two month battle, it seemed like an eternity to those who loved him, laughed with him and cherished him.
John was predeceased by his parents, Stanley and Rose Theresa Beaufait Koniuto, his stepmother, Mary Many Koniuto, His brother Stanley and wife Charlotte Koniuto, His sister, Mary Doupe, and sister in law, Kathrine Koniuto. 
John is survived by his best friend since 10th grade and wife of 52 years, Arlene Olver Koniuto, his much loved twin sons, Dr. John K. (Ariana Zbrzezny) Koniuto, Endwell, New York, and James S. ( Avigail Tucker) Koniuto, Oakland, California,  Brother Roger F. Koniuto,  Lexington, North Carolina, sister-in-law Joanne (Tim Wolcott) Baker, Johnson City, New York, and  and Geoffrey (Kathy) Baker, Endwell, New York.  Along with several nieces and nephews.
John often said he had  the "best back scratching team in the world" his precious granddaughters who raised his levels of love, sweetness and pride beyond words, Brea Grace and Emerson Mary, Endwell, NY and Hannah Jane, Oakland, California,
He was proud of his sons and enjoyed knowing that they were happy with the lives they shared with Ariana and Avigail.  But, once his granddaughters arrived, they all had to "move over!"


John graduated from Binghamton Central High School in 1967 where he played baseball and football. He was a well respected player, who in turn, made lasting friendships with teammates he referred to as "great guys!"  He loved seeing many of them at the 50th Class reunion in 2017. Their friendships have remained connected for years!!!
He went on to graduate from Miami Dade Community College and Utica College with a business degree.  He retired from NYS Broome Developmental Services with 30 plus years of service.  In addition, he was involved with his father's businesses throughout the years.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Church 1 Aquinas Street, Binghamton, on Tuesday, November 30 at 11:00 AM, with a Celebration of Life immediately following at the Binghamton Club on Front Street, Binghamton. Burial will be private.
John enjoyed taking his granddaughters to both The Roberson Museum, 30 Front Street, Binghamton 13905 and The Discovery Center, 60 Morgan Road, Binghamton, NY  13903,  and loved joining them in great learning and entertaining experiences.
