ENDWELL - 1961 - 2023 Kimberly J. Merithew, 61, of Endwell, NY passed away peacefully on June 8, 2023 after a courageous, 14-month battle with Glioblastoma. Her loving family, life-long “angel” friends, life partner, and an army of dedicated, world-class medical teams were by her side every step of the way. Kim was born on September 12, 1961 to Elaine George and Alfred L. Merithew in Binghamton, NY. After graduating from Maine-Endwell in 1979, Kim went on to receive her BA from Empire College and Keystone College. Her many interests and passions afforded Kim a prolific professional life with a career spanning the sales, non-profit, and health and wellness fields. Most recently she was the Director of Fundraising for the Susquehanna chapter of the United Way, a role she treasured and balanced with her fulfilling position as sales associate at Liberty Carpet, in Hallstead, PA. A dedicated volunteer, Kim poured her heart into helping others and making a positive impact. Kim didn’t measure success with professional accolades. She was rich with life- long friendships and a close-knit family, all of whom she cherished deeply. She remembered your birthday, got your sense of humor, celebrated your victories, and made you forget the mistakes. She will also be remembered as the Queen of “ Name-That-Tune” in any genre. Always ready with a smile, a laugh, and the most perfect meme, Kim’s sense of humor and optimism left its imprint on everyone lucky enough to know her. She exuded warmth, radiated positivity, and always found something special in every day, even while battling cancer. She had a remarkable ability to connect with people, as evidenced by how many people she counted as friends. All the love she received, she returned in kind. Kim’s happy place was outdoors, surrounded by nature. She loved animals, cooking, music, and being near the water. Kim was predeceased by her father Alfred L. Merithew, Maternal grandparents Mildred F George and George N George, Paternal grandparents Leona A Merithew and Alfred Merithew Sr., aunts Judith Mazzanoble (George) and Barbara Spolsky (George), and uncle Thomas Spolsky. She is survived by the “Best F*cking Sister” in the world (official title), Tracy (Ron) Prizant of Poland Ohio; Mother Elaine C. George; life partner, Harry Jay Rothenburgh, her most cherished nephews Maxwell and Zachary Prizant, Aunt Gail George, Uncle Thomas Mazzanoble, and a plethora of beloved cousins and friends. Kim will be remembered as a generous soul, an exceptional sister, a loving daughter, a devoted partner and friend, and the coolest cousin (even though her babysitting skills were a bit questionable). The world is better because she was here. Not a day will pass where Kim won’t be deeply missed, but those who loved her will find comfort and gratitude in the decades of love, laughter, and memories she leaves behind. Services will be held at Trinity Memorial Church, 44 Main Street, Binghamton, NY 13905 on Wednesday, June 14, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Lourdes Hospice, an organization comprised of the most compassionate doctors, nurses, and social workers who exemplify the meaning of humanity and deep kindness. https://www.lourdeshospitalfoundation.com Additionally, the family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the excellent medical professionals who guided them on this journey: the entire staff and teams headed up by Fabio Iwamoto, M.D., Guy McKahn M.D., Marla Hamberger M.D., all of the staff at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, New York Presbyterian Hospital Neurological Institute; Mary Jo DiMilia, M.D., Alternative and Off-label Medicine Specialist of Mount Saini Medical Center, and the entire staff under Dr. Alan DeMaine; Lourdes Supportive and Palliative care and Hospice teams in Binghamton along with Kim’s floor medical team nurses and ancillary staff.
