Julia "Judy" Covert

After battling various cancers for the past 22 years, God called Julia “Judy” Edith Covert home while surrounded by her family on Monday October 9, 2023. Judy joins her parents George and Loretta Dutton, her siblings John and Richard Dutton, Jeanette Keenan, Betty and Louise, her husband and father of her children Robert Snyder Sr. and her son Robert Snyder Jr. in God’s kingdom. Judy is survived by her sisters Dawn(Stan) Jones of Winterhaven Fl., Joyce Hulander of Owego NY and her beloved daughters Tressa Sanders and Lisa(Doug) Kumpon of Binghamton; her soul mate of 44 years John Kolly. She was “Gran” to grandchildren Loretta Powell, Julie Snyder and Alex Hackert, “ G” to grandchildren Jacob and Mary Elizabeth Kumpon and “GG” to Benjamin and Henry Powell.  Judy attended Owego Free Academy and the Ridley Lowell School of Business. She worked as a bookkeeper for many years for area construction companies and Highland Electronics before eventually becoming the deputy clerk for the Town of Dickinson, before retiring as a bookkeeper most recently for the Walmart Corporation. Her creativity, generosity and love shown through her time volunteering. Judy served many years as the President of the Prospect Terrace Auxiliary, at St. James Church as a collections counter, the bereavement luncheon group, and candy maker ministries. Judy’s compassion and love touched so many lives throughout her work and volunteerism over the course of her life. Judy was an avid cook and baker and loved to share her treats with all that knew her. She was a fierce matriarch and loved most of all her time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Thursday October 19 at 10:30am at St James Church, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday at 9:30am until the time of the Mass. Private Interment will take place at St Patrick’s Cemetery in Owego at a time determined by the family. Judy’s family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Lourdes Hospice and Lourdes Home Care Teams, especially nurses Jessica and Rose, for their incredible dedication to Judy’s care over the past few months. In lieu of flowers , the family asks that in Judy’s memory, you take the time to dedicate your time and talents to an organization of your choosing. Thank you for sharing Judy’s life, love, and generosity with those in need.
