Joyce E. Quain

JOHNSON CITY - Joyce E. Quain, 82, of Johnson City, N.Y., beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother & Great-Grandmother, passed away on January 7, 2021 after a brief battle with brain cancer. Joyce was predeceased by her mother & step-father, Helen & Tim Lakin, brother Lynn Lester, sister-in-law Diane Lester, brother-in-law Ken Hall, stepbrother & wife Ed & Dolores Lakin & daughter-in-law Antoinette (Rossi) Quain, her mother-in-law Anna Quain & her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Peg & Jim Lewis. Joyce is survived by the love of her life, her husband of 63 years, Thomas H. Quain & their 7 children, Thomas M. Quain, Kevin Quain (Stephanie), Susan Quain, Timothy Quain, John Quain, Kathleen McCormack (Joe) & Colleen Quain, also her 9 grandchildren Thomas, Gabriella, Michael, Benjamin, Abigail, Danielle, Ashley, Jack, Ryan & Anna. She is also survived by her 6 great-grandchildren Kendrick, Jayden, Aubrielle, Anthony, Allison, Natalie, Stella & Madilyn, & her siblings Jean (Ed) Smith, Barbara Hall, Douglas (Pat) Lester, Gerald (Karen) Lester & several nieces and nephews. Mom loved reading, watching Jeopardy & chatting up the neighbors from the front porch. What she loved most were weekend breakfasts surrounded by her children, grandkids & great grandkids, with Grandpa manning the griddle. She had the kindest heart & a wonderful sense of humor. She never took herself too seriously & over the years, sat through multiple retellings of her driving misadventures (with her children in the car), complete with what others might call terrifying details, leaving everyone laughing, including herself. Mom may have been small in stature, but her passing will leave a huge hole in our hearts. She was the toughest, yet gentlest soul we knew, and she never, ever complained. To paraphrase Danielle “she was the most amazing woman in the world.” She truly was. She was deeply loved & will be forever missed. Funeral services will be private on Tuesday January 12, 2021 at the J.F. Rice Funeral Home, Inc. 150 Main Street, Johnson City, New York. Burial will be in Spring Forest Cemetery
