Elizabeth Martin Obituary

Elizabeth McCabe Martin (Betty), recently of Ithaca NY and formerly of Delray Beach, FL and Binghamton, NY, passed away at the age of 102 on April 17, 2021 at Bridges Cornell Heights in Ithaca.  Elizabeth was born at home on January 10, 1919 in Johnson City, NY, the fourth child of Robert and Katherine Murphy McCabe.  She is survived by her daughters, Ann (John) Caren and Joyce Martin (formerly Joyce Davis) both of Ithaca, NY, her grandchildren Matthew (Shalin) Caren of Litchfield Park, AZ, Keelin Davis of Oakland, CA and Luke Davis of Los Angeles, CA, her great grandchildren Adalyn and Aria Caren and her brother, William McCabe (Mary Berube) of Delray Beach, FL and Laurel Lake, PA.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her husband, Eugene F. Martin, her brothers, Robert McCabe, James McCabe, Gerald McCabe, Martin McCabe, Eugene McCabe and her sisters, Marie Skinner, Kathleen Hawley, Alice Stank and Helen Laskowski.  

 

Betty loved to travel and spent much of her 80’s traveling inNew York and New England to attend her grandchildren’s hockey games and musical performances.  She followed the stock market avidly beginning in the 1950’s.  She was devoted to her family and hosted her family, as well as many friends, at her cottage at Forest Lake, PA and her homes in Cocoa Beach and Delray Beach, Florida. 

 

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City.  Rice Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. A memorial mass and celebration of her life will be held at a later date, due to the pandemic.  In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the charity of your choice in memory of Betty.

 

We would like to thank the caring staff at Bridges CornellHeights who provided Betty with a loving home for the last 6 years of her life.
