Donald M. Davis Obituary

Johnson City - It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Donald M. Davis on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at the age of 92. He was surrounded by his family as he made his peaceful transition from this life to his final journey. 

Don was born in Staten Island, NY on May 30, 1928. His family eventually made their way to Johnson City, NY where he lived with his wife, Ann, and together they raised eight children. 

He was predeceased by his mother Ann Mayo, his stepfather Walter Mayo, his grandmother Edith Davis, his sister Phyllis Hoffman, and his cousin Dorothy Ward. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ann, and their children; Kathleen (Aaron), Thomas, Denise, Timothy (Alexandrine), Lisa, Richard, Daniel (Jackie), and Jon Paul (Lindsey). He will be lovingly remembered by his 16 grandchildren; Kristina, Todd, Stacey, Matt, Jesse, Brent, Heather, Nicolette, Elissa, Yoni, Kenya, Zachary, Matthew, Christopher, Keyshawn, and Halley; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother David (Jan) Mayo, sister Doreen Allen, cousin Betty Valentino, son-in-law Edward Driscoll, brother-in-law Robert (Vincenza) Murphy, and sister-in-laws Antoinette and Mary-Lou Murphy. He was adored by many nieces, nephews, friends, and colleagues.

Donald served in post war Germany as an Army Transportation Specialist and a short stint in the Merchant Marines. After returning from Germany, he became a truck driver and a member of the Teamsters Local Union 693 for over 50 years. Don enjoyed attending car and truck shows with his family and friends. He was an avid NASCAR fan and attended most of the local race tracks and knew most of the drivers. He always looked forward to camping, car/truck rides, trips to the ocean, and meals with his fellow Teamster retirees throughout the years. 

Don’s family extends gratitude and thanks to the aides, nurses, and Hospice staff of Ascension Lourdes Hospital for their loving care. 

A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 9 at 10:30 AM at St. James Roman Catholic Church, 147 Main Street, Johnson City, NY. Appropriate precautions are being taken for public health concerns, including masks and social distancing. The Mass will be live streamed on www.stjamesjc.org. Please press live stream. The interment of ashes will take place at Calvary Cemetery in the Summer of 2021 when Don’s family and friends will gather to celebrate his life.
