Alice C. Machalek, of Binghamton
Alice C. Machalek, 92, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2021, due to complications of COVID-19. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 53 years, Valentine “Walt” Machalek; parents, Leon and Esther Cook; four brothers, Robert (Helen) Cook, Charles (Celia) Cook, Lynn (Mary) Cook, and Leon (Eileen) Cook; sister Harriet (Reed) Burman. Also, predeceased by four brothers-in-law, Stephen (Rose) Machalek, Thomas (Theresa) Machalek, Victor (Phyllis) Machalek, and William Paul Machalek. Also, predeceased by seven sisters-in-law, Johanna Machalek, Elizabeth (Cyril) Oswald, Marie (Frank) Sasinek, Ann (John) Ontko, Frances (Joesph) Jakubisin, Carolyn (Leo) Skiba, and Jacqueline (Larry) Sanneman. Also, predeceased by granddaughter-in-law, Christina Knapp. She is survived by three daughters, Linda (Steven) Miller, Durham, NC, Patrica Knapp (Leo Fritsch) Vestal, Lorraine (Douglas) Fenson, Endwell, and one son, Richard (Judy) Machalek, Vestal. Also, survived by six grandchildren, Matthew (Marissa) Knapp, Melissa Knapp, Laura (Kyle) Vipperman, Katherine (Kevin) Stanley, Alexander (Amanda) Fenson, Kristen (Brent) Wagner; eight great-grandchildren, Dylan, Reagan, Abraham, Bell, Dawson, Adalynn, Abigail, and Wyatt. Also, survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and her adopted dog Zoey. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church, Johnson City, a retired employee of New York Telephone Co. with 36 years of service, and a member of the Telephone Pioneers. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, and Europe. She enjoyed holidays with her family, and shared traditions along with ethnic foods (especially buchta). Alice was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend to all who knew her. A private funeral Mass will be offered
January 20th 2021
at St. James Catholic Church.
