Geraldine A. (Bakosh) Savich

Geraldine A. Savich passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2018, at Susquehanna Nursing Center after a brief illness. She was predeceased by her husband, Michael Savich; parents, Paul and Anna Bakosh; and several in-laws.  She is survived by her loving and devoted family, sons and daughters-in law, Michael and Jennifer Savich, and John and Trudy Savich; daughters and son-in-law, Catherine and Michael Waskovics, Debra Savich, and Diane Savich. She is also survived by her precious grandchildren, whom she loved dearly, Matthew (Mary) Waskovics, Mackenzie (Tim) Scholier, James (Teresa) Savich, Kyle (Melissa) Savich, Courtney (James) Deiss, Lauren Savich, and Justine and Jordan Congdon; and great-grandson, Henry Waskovics. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, and friends, including her dear, lifelong friend, Eileen Sands. She also leaves behind her “baby” and faithful companion, her dog, Jake.  Geri graduated from Binghamton Central High School and Harpur College, and earned her master’s in teaching from Binghamton University. She was a teacher for the Binghamton School district, and with her husband, owned Mike’s Tavern in JC for 20 years. She was a lifetime member of Ascension Lutheran Church.  Geri loved gardening and proudly earned her certification as a Master Gardner from Cornell Cooperative Extension. She also volunteered at the Cutler Botanical Gardens and Broome Developmental Center.  She was one of the kindest and most generous people, and the heart and soul of our family. We will love and miss her always.  The family wishes to thank the entire staff of Susquehanna Nursing Center for their compassion and care during Geri’s last days.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 2 from 4 - 7 p.m. at J.F. Rice Funeral Home, Inc., 150 Main St., Johnson City. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 3 at 10 a.m. at Ascension Lutheran Church, 324 Clinton St., Binghamton. Burial will be in Slovak Lutheran Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made in Geri’s memory to Habilitat or the charity of your choice.
