Ernest R. Riegel

Ernest R. Riegel, 71 of Lisle, passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2017 at Strong Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He was predeceased by his parents William and Mary Riegel; two brothers, William and Robert ; sister Patricia Riegel; brother-in-law Daniel  Marcello; sister-in-law Joan Riegel; nephews Mark and John Riegel and in-laws Michael and Pauline Sanyshyn. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Theresa  I. (Sanyshyn) Riegel; five siblings and their spouses, Donna Marcello, John (Betty) Riegel, James (Melanie) Riegel, Kathleen (Bob)Rogers, Marilyn (Jim) Vescio and sister-in-law Irene Riegel; two godsons, James C. Riegel and Joseph Marcello as well as several brothers-in law and sisters-in-law and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Ernest was well liked by everyone and will be remembered for his tricks, wit and sense of humor. He was a very social person and could often be found at the Dunkin Donuts on Main Street, Binghamton. He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption and Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Churches. The family will receive friends and relatives at the J.F. Rice Funeral Home, Inc. on Thursday from 4pm-7pm.  A Parastas (Prayer Service) will be held at the funeral home at 6pm. A funeral Liturgy will be recited by Rev. Teodor  Czabala Jr. on Friday at 9am at Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church, 230 Ukrainian Hill Rd., Johnson City. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. In lieu of flowers,  please consider donations to St. Mary of the Assumption Soup Kitchen or Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church Building Fund.
